Wallpaper has made a comeback in a big way! The styles are absolutely gorgeous and the impact in a room can be phenomenal, stunning, breathtaking (insert your own word here)_____________________
The question is, is it worth the trouble?
Here’s what I know:
I have worked with contractors who absolutely refuse to remove or install wallpaper because of one issue or another. (glue issues, matching issues etc.)
The good news is
- Wallpaper manufacturers have made wallpaper and murals much easier to work with, including easier removal and the ability to reposition temporary peel and stick options
- If the initial application is done correctly, removal becomes a piece of cake
- Custom designs are even more accessible than ever
Here are a few tips to consider for your next wallpaper project
1. Showcase an odd shaped wall
If you have a unique wall, draw positive attention to it by making it a focal point. I love how this stone wallpaper tricks the eye above this fireplace.
2. Wallpaper a niche
Sometimes we approach niches completely baffled. They don’t usually offer much in the way of function, but there are plenty of opportunities to showcase them beautifully. Yes wallpaper is one way to do that.
3. Add Height to a room
Lately I’ve created design plans for older homes where the standard wall height was 8 feet. I love adding floor to ceiling draperies for these projects to elongate the room. And for added drama a bold vertical stripe perfectly gives the illusion of a higher wall.
4. Add A Wow Factor to the Bedroom
One wall may is enough to create a wow without it being too overwhelming.
5. Consider a Mural
The sky’s the limit for design options and flexibility when it comes to murals and talk about a conversation starter! This particular mural could be an awesome backdrop (think zoom calls) for a home office. It could be a great addition to a commercial space, foyers, lounges, waiting rooms etc. And since we can’t travel right now, it can provides inspiration for when we will again.
6. Get Crafty with leftover pieces
As with most projects, leftover wallpaper has soooo much potential. You can wrap gifts, cover books, frame them and even apply it to the backside of bookshelves. The idea is to use what’s leftover creatively and have fun!
