6 Ways to Stay Organized & Utilize Your Space

Anyone who has moved house knows the absolute chaos that can so easily erupt. No matter how much you plan, no matter how much you try to organize, there will always be something that goes wrong, something that falls apart, a room that feels overcrowded, and something completely disorganized. However, with a few key organization items and space-maximizing solutions, that disorganization and overcrowding feels a little less overwhelming.

As you all might know, I recently made the huge move from Ohio to Miami (#miamilife) so I’m more than prepared to share with you the 6 things my husband and I did to stay organized (at least a little) and utilize our new space to the max.

Organize

  1. Wicker Baskets. These wicker baskets have become my go-to for all things bathroom related. They’re cute, minimal, square for easy stacking and shelf-storage, and durable. Wicker has such a nice, natural look to it, too, so it goes really well with almost any interior aesthetic.
  2. Closet Systems. We also purchased custom closet systems for more efficient storage options in the bedrooms and other closets. Customization is not essential, there are plenty of other closet systems out there that can help quickly organize your space—especially if it isn’t all that you’d hoped it would be to begin with.
  3. Etagere (for Books). Here’s your new word for the day: etagere. Sounds so French and fancy! An etagere is, essentially, an open bookshelf. We needed storage for our books so we purchased this etagere. It’s pretty bare now, but won’t be for long! These are great ways to add some nuance to your shelving. They aren’t as closed off or bulky as the traditional bookshelf, and they often come in really cool designs, shapes, and materials.

Utilize

  1. Murphy Bed. Once we were in our new space, we noticed that we wanted to efficiently use every inch of the rooms we have. So, we invested in a custom murphy bed to turn one of the bedrooms into a multipurpose space. Now it doubles as an office and guest room (for when the kids come to visit!).
  2. Towel Hooks. Sometimes there just isn’t space for door hooks, or bar towel hooks. Or maybe you have too many towels to make one of those solutions work for you and your family. For us, I definitely prefer using heavy duty adhesive towel hooks. They look chic, they keep the towels from staying damp too long, and you can put them wherever they fit the best, optimizing the storage space you have at your disposal!
  3. Refillable Dispensers. I absolutely love these refillable dispensers for keeping our shower more minimal and cohesive. If you have bathroom shelving that is small, all the toiletry bottles that are different shapes and sizes can make a quick mess of your bathroom and powder rooms. These uniform refillable dispensers are great for putting all your daily musts into containers that actually fit in the shower or on the vanity.
Refillable dispensers of body wash, hand soap, and conditioner.

Our house is slowly coming together, and beginning to feel like a home. I’m always on the hunt for ways to make life easy with reliable organization solutions and clever ways to utilize space. I hope you found these tips helpful or feel free to share some of your favs.
