The word “trend” gets a bad rap sometimes. When you’re on trend, there’s always the fear of being exactly like everyone else. However, trends can be customized just as much as any other decor element and, if you’re early to adopt them, can even set you apart. April is National Decorating Month, so we wanted to dive into some of the trendy design elements you should add to your home ASAP! These are things that are a little unique, making a comeback, or just plain cool that we think you’ll love to see in your home.

Decorating Might Just Be The Answer
Home renovations are an investment, which means a complete overhaul may not be in the budget. But updated decorations can be! It’s amazing the difference a fresh coat of paint, some new art, reupholstered pillows and furniture, and a few other additions can make. Swap the old for the new and you’ve got a room that looks and feels fresh and interesting without breaking the bank or tearing the house apart first.
The decorations—or seasonings, as I like to call them—are exactly what we focus on when you sign up for my Art & Accessories package. We’ll reevaluate your space, pick out new items, compare paints and wallpapers, and determine what else can make you love your space again. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for spring, and the best way to finish an already started project.
Trendy Design Elements To Add ASAP
Now we get the good stuff. These trendy design elements are fun and easy ways to introduce something different to your space!
Leather Wall Treatments.
We’re starting bold here. Just like wallpapered ceilings, fabrics and other textiles as wall treatments is finding its way into contemporary home design. Textured walls made Decorilla’s 2025 trends list, so you know you’re in good company on this one. Don’t shy away from this growing trend—it’s a fantastic way to add interest and texture, especially in moodier rooms, offices, and man caves. Find inspiration at Studioart.

Billowy Sheer Curtains.
Light and airy, with a touch of beachy vibes, the billowy sheer window treatment helps maximize your view while still shielding, yet maintaining, sunlight. This is an especially popular choice in Florida where the intense sun is a huge draw, but also a bit much at times. The sheer curtain offers some control and a lot of elegance.

Indoor Plants.
This was a huge trend a few years ago and it’s still going strong. Bringing the outdoors inside reconnects to nature, helps clean the air (depending on what plants you choose), and incorporates color and fun dynamics to your design. It’s also probably one of the least expensive ways to shake things up.
Remote Controlled Window Treatments.
This one is also popular in Florida as well as with empty nesters. Remote control window treatments are the easiest way to effortlessly control light, solve the problem of the really high windows, and make growing old in your home possible! Really, any home automation is a no brainer for retirees looking to make life easier.
Cozy Colors.
We want comfort in 2025 (and beyond), so cozy warm tones like cactus green and terracotta orange are on trend. These colors, like indoor plants, help foster our connection to nature, evoke a sense of calm, and are super fun foundations for a room’s color palette. Both of these colors pair really well with a deep, rich blue, sandy beige, warm yellow, and soft pinks.

Wall Panels and Lighting.
Anyone else remember the wall paneling of the ‘60s and ‘70s? Even if you weren’t born then, you probably saw it in your grandparents’ house. But we’re not talking about your grandma’s wood paneling. We’re talking funky, fun, layered wall panels of wood or mixed materials. To enhance these upgraded installations, we love to use wall sconce lighting to create more intrigue, add functionality, and turn a simple wall into a focal point.

Address the Senses.
Incorporating the five senses goes beyond the simple candle and into the realm of mixing and matching materials. Don’t be afraid of texture—pair the linen bedspread with velveting throw pillows and a fringed blanket. Sink your toes into a sumptuous carpet laid across wood floors, choose textured wallpaper, and pick out an assortment of glass vases. Then add you candles and diffusers, hit play on your favorite playlist, grab your favorite snack, and hang up art you love!
Shop Local and Handmade.
Having lived in a variety of places throughout my life, I’ve come to love finding what makes each place unique. I can really incorporate all of my homes by curating local and handmade pieces from those areas. It’s a fantastic way to help your home reflect a part of you and the town or city you love. Shop local boutiques, find local artisans, and explore antique stores for decor specific to where you live. As a bonus, handcrafted and antique pieces also help cut down on the fast-fashion and throw-away culture!
Lighting.
One of the easiest pieces of decor to switch out for a whole new look is lighting. Whether you’re layering lighting with a mix of pendants, table lights, floor lamps, and sconces, or just want a new dining room chandelier, a change up in lighting can create a whole new ambiance, increase the functionality of a space, and double as a finishing touch of decor.
