Raise your hand if you’ve made a New Years resolution in the past and by February couldn’t even remember what it was? 🙋🏾 Just me? Impossible. We’ve all been there. We feel motivation when the clock strikes 12 but two months into the new year, the goal fades as reality takes over. But your home is, literally, all around you. You have to live there and thrive there. Any resolution you make for your home goes beyond just a goal or new project and affects how you live down to how you feel and function on a daily basis. Which is why I want to focus on resolutions…but interior design style. I want to talk about your home resolutions and encourage you to take the leap this year and stick to your goal. Because it’s not just your house, it’s your home.
Let’s do new years resolutions: interior design style!
What We’re Loving for 2026 Interior Designs
I am a huge fan of creating spaces that feel authentic to our clients and helping them unpack what that looks and feels like. So I’m not big on trends. They tend to fall flat for clients and then (as trends do) they fade and the next big thing comes by. Instead, my personal resolution as an interior designer is to continue to build authentic spaces where they feel themselves and can indulge in what they love.
But there are plenty of things that have become more popular that we absolutely love and want to float past you as design options for your home in 2026.
The first is texture. Wallpapered ceilings, textured wall finishes, velvety throw pillows with silky sheets, natural wood paired with metallic sculptural art. Mixing textures and creating that sensory experience in your home is a big part of what YDP does.
Secondly, we love a good feature wall. Introduce a secondary color and depth by painting one wall, or even just a section of wall, a different color. Or wallpaper it with a mural or elegant wallpaper that adds something a little different to the space.
Working with YDP means you can harness trending design elements to identify and express your personal style. A design partner helps you take a general concept and hone it down to be more you!

2026 Interior Design Home Resolutions
A resolution does not have to be big. Even the smallest change to your home can make it feel a little more you, and is a step towards creating your dream home. Like all other resolutions, it’s best to start small, so here are some great, practical resolutions you can make for your home in 2026.
Finish That Project
We all have a project that we’ve started and just keep meaning to finish. This is your sign to just finish that project! It can feel overwhelming to jump back in, but make a list of what still needs to be done, maybe talk to a designer to help you envision the end goal, and chip away at it as you can. There’s hope, light at the end of the tunnel, and a designer who can help! 😉
Room Refresh
Speaking of designers who can help, did you know I have a room refresh package? This package is specifically designed to help homeowners of all ages (new and empty nesters) revamp their spaces through small, but impactful changes. Art, pillows, paint — these things go a long way to taking an old room that feels outdated and giving it a facelift.
Using That Empty Space
Alright, empty nester, this one’s for you. The babies aren’t babies anymore and they’ve flown the coop. Now you’re stuck with an empty room that might even need to serve multiple purposes. Whether you’re prepping for grandkids, finally ready to create the craft room of your dreams, need a guest space, or want to hunker down and hit the gym in your own home with a home gym, there’s good use for that room. Let’s figure it out together and put that room to good use in this new era of life.

Declutter
The simplest of things, and yet so complicated. But decluttering is a room refresh in its own way and one of best first steps to making your home more comfortable and you. Take it room by room, shelf by shelf, and sort through the belongings that have built up over the years. And while you’re at it, consider the integrity and functionality of your storage. Do you need new shelves? A more useful system?
Another great thing to consider is donating what you don’t need – it helps with the separation a bit to know it’s going to a good cause and will find love in another home.
Find Your Color Palette
It’s one thing to love a color, but is it part of your color palette? As a designer, I highly suggest taking some time to find the combination of colors that really suits you, your home, your lifestyle, and your personality. It can be as simple as what colors make you feel happy. Or as complex as what colors directly reflect who you and what your personality is like. Does the color palette immediately scream your name?
Consult family, what items and art have spoken to you in the past, and what you love about your favorite vacation spot. What makes it you and then create a color palette around that. For more inspiration, read Setting the Stage: 4 Moods You Can Create Through Design.
