I was so excited to dive back into the Jones’s home. We had worked together before to create their amazing front room that is a fuchsia dream, but the Jones’s love to entertain in their home and wanted to create a dining room space with a glamorous wow factor where they could welcome guests. This lovely dining room came together so well, and I’m incredibly excited to share the details with you all!
Before
This dining room was a family space that gave a warm family welcome when you entered the home. We decided to give it an updated cohesive look. It had heavy chairs, an outdated light fixture, and a ceiling that lacked depth and character—despite its cozy elements; we wanted to brighten this space, add depth and texture, and infuse some color and character.
Blending Colors
Aside from the front room and entryway, the dining room in the Jones house is one of the first things you see when you walk through the door. The other spaces you see are heavily blue and fuchsia, so we set out to find a way to combine these color aesthetics and anchor all three spaces so they flow and work together to welcome you instead of clashing. These spaces are the welcoming committee to the Jones’s home, we wanted them to act like it 😂.
We’ll start with the ceiling. The oft-forgotten fifth wall of the home can be a very versatile surface to work with. It’s a great place to incorporate some bold color, or other features that help give the illusion of high ceilings and lots of space. So we wallpapered the ceiling in a dramatic blue that featured an amazing flocking texture design. The effect was a bold feature wall that drew the eye.
From there, we painted the walls in Sherwin-Williams’s Steely Gray, replaced the white shades with trimmed, cream-colored, satin floor-length curtains (another way to give the illusion of high ceilings), and replaced the table and chairs. The new, modern table has a light gray finish and chrome legs that complement the beautiful velvet chairs in gray and stunning blue.
We added a side board with a shagreen finish, giving it a texture similar to leather, and placed two modest lamps from Uttermost on top. Then, we wanted to add a mirror feature on the wall behind the lamps. So we ordered two, and both times fate, the universe, and the interior design gods had other ideas: both mirrors broke during the shipping process.
So we went with art and found these fantastic abstract pieces from Left Bank Art that helped pull the color schemes of all three front rooms together and create the glamorous feel we were going for.
The Final Piece: The Chandelier
Every room has that one piece that just…sparkles. And for this chic dining room that piece is the statement chandelier. A piece of art in its own right, the large chandelier hanging over the dining room table is made from hand-strung wafers of iridescent glass 😍. While we were trying to stay away from glitz we still wanted that glamor, and this chandelier was the perfect choice to give the whole dining room a lifted, weightless feel that is perfectly balanced by the heavier blues and luxurious textures of the chairs and sideboard.
