E-Design: Are Virtual Design Options Right For You?

With my heart in two places at once – Miami and Cincinnati – virtual design has become an even bigger part of the Your Design Partner services. I have always wanted to bring quality and positive design experiences to people across the country, so virtual design, or e-design, has always been a priority and played a role in my design journey. However, as I work more and more with past clients still in Ohio, new clients wading through the many material and product options, and empty nest clients exploring the possibilities for all their newly-empty rooms, e-design has taken on an even more important role in the YDP catalog.

Though I love e-design and the freedom and flexibility of virtual design technologies, this new approach to interior design may have you questioning whether it’s the right option for you. Technology can feel like a barrier, and when it comes to your home, it is totally natural to want a hands-on approach. Let me assure you, however, that e-design offers many of the same advantages of a more hands-on approach, and can even be blended with in-person services to create a more well-rounded design experience. So, is e-design right for you?

The Pros of E-design

Perhaps above all else, e-design and virtual design options are the perfect solution for anyone with an eye for design who is simply looking for guidance and options. These DIY designers can find all the support they need at Your Design Partner, using my e-design expertise to provide room layouts with varying decor, wallpaper, furnishing, and light options.

The more affordable nature of virtual design also allows me to easily assist clients on a budget who still want the luxury of a refreshed and personalized home. It also opens the door for empty-nesters who may find themselves on a more restricted “retirement” budget.

Some other pros include:
  • You receive the same professional guidance and a full plan of action for installation
  • Introverts will enjoy the hands-off and minimal interaction required
  • You receive shoppable boards to order your new room at the click of a button
  • All samples (floor, fabric, wallpaper, etc.) as well as all products for your new space are delivered right to your doorstep
  • Plans can be saved and executed at your convenience, making virtual design even more financially feasible.

Rest assured, too, that our communications will be frequent and clear, any client portals regarding your design are easy to use, and I will always be there to answer questions, address concerns, and even (if desired) assist, in person, with the installation process.

“My goal is to help save you time, reduce overwhelm and avoid design missteps.

I believe that on a very fundamental level, improving your home atmosphere not only transforms your living environment, but it can also transform you.”

Cons of E-design

And now the cons. Though I could talk about the wonders of e-design all day, there are a few cons everyone should be aware of before jumping in. The first is that e-design is not a done-for-you service. The client is responsible for taking and providing measurements and implementing the design plans.

Though, keep in mind that I will be able to help you along the way, guiding you in how to take measurements, and giving you some insight into the best approach for installation.

Some other cons include:
  • Clients are responsible for handling any contactor hiring and communications
  • Clients will manage shipments of products and any related snafus

What is Included?

Lately, I’ve revamped my services and I’m excited to share with you all what to expect when you work with YDP on your virtual design. All e-design clients will receive a custom floor plan for each room being redesigned with layout, furnishing, light, wall color or wallpaper, window treatment, floor, and decor recommendations. This is curated based on our meetings and any inspiration images or desires you provide.

Additionally, clients will receive aesthetic direction, curated recommendations, mood boards that show how your plan “reads” together, and shoppable links. Depending on your needs, I can also have samples shipped to you.

My services all include a 2D and a 3D rendering, but I have recently added a photo-realistic upgrade so you can get a better experience of the room with the new items and features—almost “standing” within the space to get a feel for the flow of the room.

Your virtual design experience also includes phone calls and zoom meetings, and I may ask for a video tour of the room(s) to get a better idea of the true architectural arrangement of the space.

Though it lacks the hands-on aspect of traditional design, e-design has opened the door to quality interior design for many people. Whether you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, just want to do the hands-on parts yourself, or need help making decisions without the risk of mistakes or regrets, e-design has something to offer you.
