YDP 2022 Recap & What To Look Forward To

🎉Pop the champagne! 🎉It’s 2023 and I’m here bright eyed and bushy-tailed (or a little sleepy and wrapped in a warm sweater), ready to take on this beautiful new year. You all gave me an absolute dream of a 2022, so I’m very excited to see what this year brings. But first, there’s so much that happened last year, that I want to do a quick recap. Please indulge me as I look back at a little YDP 2022 recap, then jump forward and let you know what there is to look forward to in 2023.

Let’s Go!

YDP 2022 Trends

Boy oh boy were there trends this year. It’s so funny, because last year I put together predicted trends for 2022 (with the help of my daughter) and had lots listed. Things like maximalism, multi-purpose rooms, greens, metallic accents, and nature all made the list. We actually got more of these into projects than I thought we would. I loved that my clients were open to suggestions and trying new things — they definitely weren’t afraid of color, but they also embraced fun things like fish wallpaper, nature-inspired window treatments, and more.

Colors

One of the biggest trends? Orange and teal. That’s right, you guys went big and bold with color this year and orange and teal were top of the list. I loved it though. These are colors you don’t typically see in the home — not as central colors, at least — so it was amazing to work with them and see what they could do.

Client Wants

Then I had this thought: I should look at your answers to the questionnaire you all take and see who I’m working with. What I found was amazing! You are all unique and interesting, but I definitely attract clients who know what they want .

You like to take your time (and there’s nothing wrong with that). My clients overwhelmingly wanted to take their projects one at a time.

You wanted to be in on the decision-making and were open to trying new things. This is the sort of insight that I love because it tells me so much about how to make the YDP experience easy and breezy!

But you wanted the little things to be off your plate for good! When it came to details, my clients wanted help from YDP.

And you all really liked summer, which is just interesting to me.

The Vibes

One of the main questions I try to get to the heart of when talking to clients is what they want their house to feel like. What’s the vibe? What do you want to feel, smell, think, and remember when you walk into a room? Your home is your haven, so what is it saying about you?

In 2022, some of the biggest feelings we evoked were: comfort, elegance, cohesiveness, relaxing, warm,  and cozy.

Additionally, my projects this year involved a lot of unique or custom art, bold colors, dramatic details, and sculptural, accent lights.

What’s Happening in 2023?

Now on to 2023. As before, I’m predicting some trends for this year. For example, I think we’re going to see accent walls this year, as well as conversational layouts, (more) printed ceilings, bright colors, and bold art. From what I’ve seen, we’re already headed in that direction, and I’m here for it.

YDP will also be continuing our events schedule. Last year we had quarterly events and they were each a blast! So 2023 will definitely have some workshops where we can all hang out and learn. Personally, this year is about organization, communication, celebrating clients and everything that makes them who they are, and continuing to create spaces where my clients can live their best lives and grow.

But I want to hear your thoughts; what do you want in 2023? How can YDP serve clients, vendors, readers, and interior design professionals in the new year? I strongly believe design should be a collaborative effort, which is why I will always be…
